Ukraine is considering the possibility of creating the position of a military ombudsman, which involves the creation of the Central Department for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen.
This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov noted that the implementation of this initiative involves a comprehensive approach to the protection of the rights of military personnel and their family members, in particular, responding to specific complaints, analyzing situations, visiting the places of violations and further measures to restore rights.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, emphasized the importance of this project for the protection of the rights of Ukrainian soldiers and conscripts.
It is noted that the Office will be subordinate to the Minister of Defense and will be responsible for considering appeals and complaints of military personnel, providing primary legal assistance and conducting investigations into violations of their rights.
Among the main violations that will be within the competence of the Central Administration for the Protection of the Rights of the Military, the provision of the military, the right to leave, the provision of medical care, social guarantees and violations of gender equality are noted.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also points to the successful experience of European countries in this area, in particular, in Sweden, where the military ombudsman institute has been successfully functioning for more than a century.
In the context of waging war with Russia, the creation of such a body in Ukraine is relevant to protect the rights and interests of military personnel participating in the defense of the country.
