The results of the presidential election in the United States of America, where Republican candidate Donald Trump won, are of global importance, and Ukraine expresses its hopes for continued US leadership in achieving a just peace. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, during a press conference with EU High Representative Josep Borrell, stressed the importance of supporting a peace based on justice, not compromises.
Sybiga noted that the Ukrainian side expects global changes that could help accelerate the end of the war on Ukrainian terms. He made it clear that Ukraine stands for achieving a just peace, not for appeasement through territorial concessions.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on his victory, recalling their previous meeting, during which they discussed the strategic partnership between the countries and the principles of “peace through strength.” However, Trump’s victory raised concerns due to the position of his advisor Brian Lanza, who stated that the new administration would be aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine, but not at supporting the return of occupied territories.
Commenting on the possibility that Trump might offer Ukraine significant concessions to reach an agreement with Russia, Zelensky noted that such an approach is currently unacceptable. He emphasized that hope for a just peace remains Ukraine's main position.
