The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslav Sikorsky, made a resounding statement in an interview with the French publication Le Monde , calling on Ukraine to find a solution to the historic Volyn tragedy. Sikorsky noted that Ukraine should take active measures on this issue "before Poland is forced to apply tougher solutions."
In particular, he called for the exhumation of the victims. He will discuss this topic already today at meetings in Kyiv.
"What happened in 1943 during the German occupation of Poland and Ukraine was a plan of the Ukrainian resistance (to carry out) ethnic cleansing of the Volyn region by mass murdering the Polish civilian population," Sikorskyi said.
He claims that 80,000 to 120,000 people were killed in a few months. He admitted that "there were also acts of revenge on the part of the Polish resistance movement."
He noted that the topic of exhumation for proper reburial worries millions of Poles who are voters.
It will be recalled that Sikorsky raised the topic of the Volyn tragedy in his first conversation with the newly appointed head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sybiga.
