Ukraine will not extend the transit agreement with Russia: Prime Minister Shmygal's statement

After a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that Ukraine does not intend to continue the transit agreement with Russia after its expiration. This decision was another step in Ukraine's strategic course towards energy independence and strengthening its security.

But it makes it clear that Kyiv is ready to continue transit.

"At the same time, Ukraine is ready to continue fulfilling its obligations in accordance with the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Charter Treaty," writes Shmyhal.

We will remind that the Association Agreement with the EU stipulates Ukraine's obligation to provide transit.

That is, Ukraine is ready for transit, if contracts with Gazprom are concluded by European companies. For example, as Hungary did recently.
