Ukraine and Moldova are currently conducting "some dialogue" regarding the possibility of returning Ukrainian men of military age who left abroad illegally. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova Marko Shevchenko during an airing on Moldovan TV, Newsmaker reports.
According to him, first of all, Kyiv wants to resolve the issue with those evaders who were denied asylum by Moldova, but who did not return to Ukraine.
"There are supposedly 100 people who, according to the Moldovan Border Police, illegally crossed the state border. These 100 people applied for asylum, thanks to which they fall under the protection of the international convention on asylum. But the Moldovan government provides asylum to only 90 people out of these 100. In this regard, I have a question - where are the remaining 10, whom Moldova did not consider it possible to provide asylum? Were they detained? No. Did they return home? No. They either simply remain on the territory of Moldova or move on. This situation suggests that there are problems that need to be solved. They do not deserve protection, but at the same time they do not want to return to Ukraine, and no one is forcing them to return," Shevchenko said.
