Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova expressed confidence that the United States will negotiate with Russia from a position of strength, which will contribute to finding a joint solution to end the war in Ukraine. She stated this on CBS News, emphasizing the importance of a strong US position in resolving the conflict.
Markarova emphasized that the front line in eastern and southern Ukraine is a conditional border between good and evil, and the key question is where it will pass: on Ukrainian territory or in Europe. She expressed her belief that, together with the United States, Ukraine will find a way to stop Russian aggression.
Commenting on the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the ambassador said that Ukraine hopes for the effectiveness of the negotiations and significant results. Ukraine is ready for any format of a ceasefire - full or partial.
Markarova also noted that President Volodymyr Zelensky has consistently advocated for peace since the beginning of the war and is ready to participate in relevant international meetings to resolve the conflict. She recalled the importance of sanctions and their impact on forcing Russia to stop its aggression.
The diplomat warned against ideas about creating buffer zones or dividing Ukraine, calling such proposals outdated and unacceptable, as they contradict the country's sovereignty.
