Ukrainian banks have sharply increased the number of lawsuits against debtors. According to the State Judicial Administration, this year alone, banks filed 100,434 lawsuits — a record figure for the past seven years and almost one and a half times more than last year. This is reported by "Law and Business" with reference to Opendatabot.
Since 2019, banks have filed a total of 511,865 lawsuits regarding customer debt obligations. PrivatBank remains the leader in terms of the number of applications — 191,353 lawsuits. Universal Bank is in second place (115,702), and A-Bank is in third place (60,421). Also among the active plaintiffs are Sense Bank (25,283) and FUIB (21,476).
In 2024, over 70% of all bank lawsuits fell on three institutions: Universal Bank/Mono — 28,213 applications, A-Bank — 22,221, and PrivatBank — 20,278. FUIB (9,225) and Sense Bank (6,831) follow with a noticeable margin.
Statistics also show a significant increase in the activity of some banks in debt collection. Thus, Taskombank increased the number of claims by 3.5 times, PrivatBank by 1.8 times, Kredobank by 1.7 times, A-Bank and Sense Bank by 1.6 times.
At the same time, several banks reduced their litigation activity. The largest drop was recorded at Yunex Bank - 4 times. Credit Agricole and Ukrgasbank filed half as many lawsuits.
The increase in the number of bank lawsuits indicates a more active policy of institutions towards the recovery of problem debts, which is becoming a noticeable trend this year.
