Over the last quarter, Ukrainians took out over 2.1 million microloans, borrowing more than UAH 13.7 billion from microfinance organizations (MFIs).
In the third quarter, Ukrainians took out 2,138,569 microloans. This is approximately 2% less than in the previous period. At the same time, the average loan amount is increasing.
-
At the beginning of the year, the average "payday loan" was UAH 5,773.
-
Currently, borrowers are already taking out an average of UAH 6,417 for one microloan.
In total, since the beginning of the year, MFIs have issued 6.5 million microloans worth over UAH 40 billion.
Although the number of new loans is decreasing slightly, the situation with loan repayments is much worse. Since the beginning of the year, the total amount of debt of microloan users:
-
increased by 25%,
-
reached UAH 25.15 billion.
Analysts note that debts are accumulating faster than the number of new loans is growing, which indicates a deterioration in the solvency of part of the population.
MFIs remain one of the most accessible tools for quick loans — without certificates, checks, and complicated procedures. That is why Ukrainians continue to turn to such services in droves, even despite high rates and the risk of a debt spiral.
Experts note that the structure of the microcredit market this year demonstrates two key trends:
-
moderate decline in the number of loans,
-
an increase in the average check and a sharp increase in debt.
This indicates that more and more Ukrainians are using MFIs not as one-time assistance, but as a regular financial instrument.
