For the first time, Ukraine became a participant in NATO exercises dedicated to combating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These trainings took place in the Netherlands and gathered about 450 participants from 22 countries.
From September 10 to 20, more than 450 participants from 19 NATO countries and three partner countries took part in exercises in the Netherlands to test the ability to counter drones. Ukraine joined the exercises for the first time. This was reported by the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance.
More than 60 counter-UAV systems and technologies, such as sensors, drone guidance systems, jammers and cyber interceptors, were reportedly tested during NATO's annual C-UAS technical interoperability exercise.
Ukraine's first active participation in these exercises is part of the Ukraine-NATO Innovation Cooperation Roadmap, approved by the leaders of the Alliance countries and Ukraine at the Washington Summit. Exercises such as C-UAS TIE provide a unique opportunity to jointly address pressing issues such as drone autonomy and interoperability, as well as to study Ukraine's combat experience in combating small unmanned aerial vehicles
It is noted that at the 2024 Washington Summit, Alliance members took steps to further improve readiness, response and integration of UAV countermeasures technologies into NATO's Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) and agreed to support the development and implementation of an integrated air and missile defense architecture for Ukraine.
