The results of the presidential elections in the United States of America, where the Republican candidate Donald Trump won, are of global importance, and Ukraine expresses its hopes for the further leadership of the United States in achieving a just peace. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, during a press conference with EU High Representative Josep Borrell, emphasized the importance of supporting peace based on justice and not on compromises.
Sybiga noted that the Ukrainian side expects global changes that can help speed up the end of the war on Ukrainian terms. He made it clear that Ukraine advocates the achievement of a just peace, not pacification through territorial concessions.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on his victory, recalling their previous meeting, during which they discussed the strategic partnership between the countries and the principles of "peace through strength." However, Trump's victory caused concern because of the position of his adviser Brian Lanza, who said that the new administration will focus on achieving peace in Ukraine, but not on supporting the return of the occupied territories.
Commenting on the possibility that Trump may offer Ukraine to agree to significant concessions in order to reach agreements with Russia, Zelensky noted that such an approach is currently unacceptable. He emphasized that the hope for a just peace remains the main position of Ukraine.
