Ukraine is facing a growing energy shortage, leading to increased blackout schedules. Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the head of the board of Ukrenergo, said that a significant energy deficit is expected in the country this week. The reason for this is the repair of power units at nuclear power plants, the shelling of energy facilities, and an increase in air temperature.
According to Kudrytskyi, it is impossible to make up for the deficit by importing electricity from Europe, so the electricity supply cutoff schedules will be applied around the clock, with the biggest deficit in the morning and evening. This situation poses a serious threat to the national energy system.
During the meeting of the VRU Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, it was reported that debts on the balancing electricity market increased by UAH 1 billion. The accumulation of debts is a serious problem, but Ukrenergo plans to spend UAH 2 billion on their repayment.
The DTEK company calls on the international community to increase assistance to Ukraine in restoring the energy infrastructure. The general director of the company, Maksym Timchenko, warns that without increased aid, it will be extremely difficult for the country to survive the next winter.
