In a situation that continues to escalate at the front, Ukraine took decisive measures, sending its best tanks to the Kursk region. This move has sparked lively discussions among military analysts and experts who are trying to assess its impact on the current military situation in Ukraine.
The Swedish Strv 122 and the German Leopard 2A6 were spotted in a video from the Russian Federation published over the weekend. These are some of the best machines in the Ukrainian arsenal. Ukraine received a total of 10 Strv 122s from Sweden and 21 Leopard 2A6s from Germany and Portugal, all in 2023.
In the video, one of these tanks is towing a damaged T-72 when something on it explodes. The tank continued to move. It is reported that the video was shot in the Kursk region, but where exactly is not specified.
There is evidence that one such tank was already lost in the Kursk region last month. In the video, it is lit after the FPV has arrived.
Forbes expresses doubt that Ukraine will receive more such machines.
"The fact that Ukrainian commanders are willing to risk their last Strv 122s and Leopard 2A6s in Kursk shows the importance they attach to the Ukrainian invasion of the region. Invasion efforts cost the Ukrainians vulnerable cities (Donbas - Ed.) and irreplaceable means of transport. For now, this is the price they are willing to pay to capture and hopefully keep a small part of Russia," the newspaper summarizes.
