Ukraine, in particular Kyiv, is becoming a world leader in digital tourism, and virtual tourism expert Olena Chernega talks about what European countries can learn from the Ukrainian experience and what should be paid attention to.
Ukraine occupies a high position in the world regarding the digital transformation of cultural heritage, and its achievements already exceed European standards. In particular, in a short period of time, Ukrainian experts were able to create digital products that attracted the interest of museums and experts abroad.
During the pandemic, digital products for virtual tours were actively developed in Ukraine, which attracted the attention of tourists with a habit of physically visiting museums. Projects such as "Close War" documenting the consequences of enemy aggression have become part of historical documentation in digital form.
Olena Chernega points out that Europe can take into account Ukraine's better approach to the digital transformation of tourist locations. She points to examples such as the Louvre's digital collections and digitized archeology artifacts that could be useful for Ukrainian tourism projects.
By comparison, Chernega notes that Ukraine is already developing its own digital products, such as digitized tourist routes, online museums, special projects on cultural heritage and history, and quest-excursions. It is noted that Ukraine has unique projects on the digitization of cultural and historical objects, which can serve as an example for other regions.
Chernega believes that after the war and victory, Ukraine will be able to compete in world tourism and attract more tourists. Already now, visitors can virtually tour Ukrainian museums and other interesting places, and digital technologies are actively developing in different regions of the country.
