Ukraine is asking the US to train more pilots, but faces limited access to the training program.
The government of Ukraine has officially requested the United States to train additional pilots at the Morris National Guard base in Tucson, Arizona. According to Politico, Kyiv indicates the presence of 30 pilots who are ready to immediately begin training in the United States.
However, President Joe Biden's administration has announced a limited number of places to study in the Arizona-based program. It is noted that only 12 trainee pilots can be accepted at a time.
It is also noted that two other training facilities, located in Denmark and Romania, also face a similar problem of limiting available training places.
Congressmen Jim Gimes and Mike Turner, who chair the House Intelligence Committee, have taken steps to support additional exercises. They, along with other lawmakers, wrote a letter to the Pentagon asking them to look into the issue.
The Ukrainian military received a response from Washington, which stated that in addition to the limited seats in the training program, there are agreements with other countries regarding training on F-16 aircraft, which the United States cannot violate.
