More and more Ukrainians are advocating the transfer of territories to Russia in order to end the conflict and preserve state independence. This is evidenced by the results of a new survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, reports The Times.
According to the study, every third resident of the country (32%) is ready to cede territory to Moscow for the sake of establishing peace. For comparison, last year this figure was only 10%.
The results of the survey demonstrate a significant change in the mood of Ukrainians regarding the issue of territorial concessions. The respondents were not asked which territories they were ready to give up, but the majority of respondents (55%) still expressed the opinion that Kyiv should not agree to the demands of the Russian side.
Reasons for changing public opinion
One of the main reasons for the change in public opinion is the fiasco of last year's counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Kyiv and its allies had high hopes for this offensive, but failures on the battlefield undermined Ukrainian hopes for a quick return of lost territories.
