Ukraine should prepare for cooperation with the new American president, regardless of who the US population chooses during the presidential elections. This was stated in an interview with "RBK-Ukraine" by Valery Chaly, Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA and Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.
According to Chaly, Ukraine should not hope for easier cooperation with President Kamala Harris compared to Donald Trump. He noted that it would be a big mistake to believe that the people surrounding Trump will remain in their positions in the White House. "It's not like that. There will be a transitional team that will form new balances and take into account the circumstances, including the Congress," the ambassador explained.
Chaly also pointed out that Harris' team consists of people who previously worked with Barack Obama. "Those who were on her team before were very difficult to work with. I worked with them, and they did not want to help Ukraine with lethal weapons. It was an impenetrable wall," he said. However, the ex-consul noted that there have been changes in Harris: "Out of 47 people in her staff, 44 no longer work with her."
In the context of the election, a new American University poll found that Donald Trump is trailing Kamala Harris among female voters who are more inclined to support her program, particularly on the economy. At the same time, Trump's wife, Melania, appeared to disagree with her husband's views on abortion, emphasizing support for a woman's right to control her body.
Thus, Ukraine needs to carefully prepare for possible changes in the US foreign policy course in order to effectively work with new administrations regardless of their political views.
