Serhii Kulish, a Ukrainian shooter, brought Ukraine a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris in the discipline of rifle shooting from three positions at a distance of 50 meters. This is the second medal for Ukraine at these Olympic Games after the bronze medal won by fencer Olga Harlan on July 29.
For Kulish, this is the second attempt at the Olympics in rifle shooting from three positions. At the previous Games in Tokyo, he failed to secure a medal due to a mistimed shot at the wrong target, which ultimately saw him finish eighth.
This year, Kulish successfully passed the qualification, showing the third result. In the qualifying stage, in the kneeling and standing positions, he scored an impressive 199 out of a possible 200 points.
The final round was challenging and included three series of five shots in each of the two main positions - kneeling and prone, as well as two series of standing shots. After the first part of the competition, Kulish held the third place, ahead of the Indian athlete Swapnil Kusale by 0.1 points. But in the next series, Kulish came out on top, showing an impressive shot of 10.9 points.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian shooter could not keep the lead until the end. He lost only to the Chinese athlete Liu Yukun and finished the competition on the second step of the podium.
This result confirms the high level of training of Kulish and brings Ukraine another medal at the prestigious Olympic Games.
