On October 11, 2024, it became known about the tragic death of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschyna, who was in Russian prison. Victoria was a freelance writer for "Ukrainian Pravda" and an active participant in the journalistic environment covering events in Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, the information about Victoria's death has been confirmed. We knew Victoria. In 2022, she made materials at the coordination headquarters, so this is extremely sad news for us and for all Ukrainian journalism," Yatsenko said.
According to Yatsenko, it is too early to talk about the circumstances of death, they are being established.
Yusov also reported on Thursday that Roschyna was to be included in one of the upcoming prisoner exchanges. She was supposed to be transferred to the "Lefortovo" prison in Moscow to prepare for her return to Ukraine.
"She was supposed to be at home in the near future, everything necessary was done for that," Yusov said.
In March 2022, Roschyna was captured by Russian invaders and held in Berdyansk for 10 days.
In 2022, Roschyna wrote a number of reports from the temporarily occupied territories. In particular, about how the occupied Crimea lives during the war, how a pseudo-referendum was held in the occupied Donetsk region, and showed a photo report from the destroyed Mariupol.
In order to get to the occupied territory, Roschyna left Ukraine for Poland on July 25. She planned to go through Russia to the occupied east of Ukraine in 3 days.
Roschyna disappeared on August 3, 2023 in the territory occupied by Russia, from where she was reporting.
In May 2024, Russia admitted for the first time that it had detained Roshchina. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation sent a letter of confirmation to her father, Volodymyr Roschyn.
