In case of prolonged Russian shelling, Kyiv faces the threat of falling into complete darkness in the summer. This was announced by the general director of DTEK "Kyivski Elektromerezhi" Denis Bodnar, warning of a high risk of new power outages. According to him, with the onset of heat and the increase in electricity consumption, interruptions in electricity supply will begin.
"In case of increased demand for electricity in the capital and a lack of generation, shutdown schedules may be introduced," Bodnar explained.
The city has already developed new schedules, according to which consumers are divided into 6 groups (compared to three last year). Information about this will be distributed through the "Kyiv Digital" application and chatbot.
Regarding the time of outages, the general director of DTEK "Kyivski Elektromerezhi" noted:
"Currently, the situation is stable, but it may change. We cannot anticipate capacity limitations. Maximum consumption was in winter. Now the consumption of the capital is 1,100 MW, in the summer - 1,350 MW," Bodnar emphasized.
Currently, a certain energy reserve has been created in the region in case of further attacks, and EU countries provide assistance with electricity supply during peak hours.
Consumers are urged to take measures to conserve electricity during peak hours to help the system conserve resources and avoid worst-case scenarios, such as blackouts, when power, internet and communications go out for days, leaving the city in total darkness.
