In Ukraine, they started growing cotton for the needs of the defense industry

In March of this year, the government of Ukraine initiated an ambitious project to grow cotton, which is a critical component for the production of gunpowder. This step is part of the strategy of self-sufficiency and strengthening of the defense potential of the country.

This was reported by the press service of the National Defense Industry Association of Ukraine.

It is noted that the powder component is grown in several regions of the country on 10 experimental fields.

"The results of the post-harvest examination should show whether Ukrainian raw materials are suitable for the manufacture of explosives," the association noted.

At the same time, Serhii Vysotskyi, deputy head of the defense industry association, noted that the global shortage of gunpowder limits the ability of supplier countries to meet the growing needs of Ukraine.

"Companies of our Association can double the production of ammunition of various calibers, including 122 mm and mortars. However, this requires a stable supply of gunpowder and explosives. Currently, there are no such permanent supplies," Vysotsky emphasized.
