The petitioner points to the fact that countries that have nuclear weapons often enjoy greater support in international affairs. He notes that the current security situation in Ukraine, in particular the war with Russia, requires new approaches to strengthening defense capabilities. In my opinion, its nuclear weapons can become the factor that will allow Ukraine to better protect its interests and national security.
"It's no secret that in this world only the strong are counted. There are many examples in world history when the support of partners depends on whether you have nuclear potential. The country does not have to use this potential. But you will be reckoned with," the petition reads.
The author assumes that the countries that signed the Budapest Memorandum do not fully fulfill their obligations, they are afraid of escalation with Russia (because it has nuclear weapons).
As of now, the petition has received 501 votes, out of the 25,000 required.
"Another example is Israel. Why does the USA not only support with weapons, but also take part in the conflict in the Middle East? Israel is a nuclear country! Please support the creation of nuclear weapons by Ukraine. There will be no greater escalation than there is now in Ukraine. We must become a strong and independent country," the petition states.
The Center for Combating Disinformation denied information about Ukraine's alleged plans to restore its nuclear arsenal.
