Ukraine will receive a new state holiday - the Day of International Harmony and Cultural Diversity , which will be celebrated annually on May 21. The decree on its introduction was signed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
As stated in the decree, the main idea is to strengthen the unity of the Ukrainian people , to establish the Ukrainian national and civil identity, as well as to support cultural diversity .
This day is intended to become a platform for mutual understanding between indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine. Special emphasis is placed on honoring the contribution of these communities to the protection of the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine , particularly in the context of the war with Russia.
The choice of date is not accidental. On May 21, the world also celebrates the Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development , proclaimed by the United Nations. This highlights the global importance of preserving and maintaining cultural diversity.
President Zelenskyy emphasized that the cultural diversity of Ukraine is not only wealth, but also the strength of the state. "This is a tribute to all communities that defend our country and contribute to its development," the head of state noted.
The introduction of this holiday creates an opportunity for active dialogue between communities , holding cultural events, festivals, educational initiatives that will promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
