In Ukraine, salaries are increasing but there is a lack of experts

The Ukrainian labor market has stabilized over 90%over the last year, but the shortage of skilled workers remains an acute problem. Employers are forced to raise salaries to attract experienced personnel, while many companies do not have resources to train new employees.

The average salary in Ukraine is currently UAH 23.5 thousand, although in Kiev this figure reaches 26.5 thousand UAH. Salaries in the areas of telecommunications (+9%), insurance (+7%) and media (+7%) are increasing.

The data of the State Statistics Service for the last quarter of 2024 indicate a total increase in wages by 25.6%. The greatest growth is noted in the following areas:

  • aviation - +50.6% (up to UAH 54.6 thousand);
  • telecommunications - +39.2% (up to UAH 57.5 thousand);
  • agriculture - +33.9% (up to UAH 20.2 thousand);
  • Postal activity - +33.7% (up to UAH 17.9 thousand).

The high level of salaries in these industries is caused by an acute shortage of personnel. Employers compete for specialists who are ready to perform work tasks immediately.

The only sector where competition for jobs is observed is IT. Remote vacancies have the highest demand:

  • Front-end developers
  • Graphic designers
  • copywriters
  • Videotors
  • translators

At the same time, the market is oversaturated with candidates for these positions, which complicates the employment of young specialists.

The end of the war will lead to the demobilization of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian military, but most veterans will not return to their former jobs. According to the National Institute for Strategic Studies:

  • 50% of veterans want to start their own business;
  • 12% already have their own business;
  • 10% are ready to work with hired workers.

Some companies are developing veterans reintegration programs, but most employers are not ready to invest in training. The best option may be state support to open business veterans.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine already offers grants to start their own business for combatants in the amount of 250 thousand to 1 million UAH.
