In Ukraine, it is planned to introduce mandatory military training courses for students of higher educational institutions, regardless of the chosen specialty. Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi told about this in an interview for The Ukrainians.
According to him, the goal is to adapt educational programs to the needs of the country under martial law. He pointed to the lack of skills among Ukrainian students to defend the country due to unreformed military departments, and expressed the belief that students will not massively pay for courses in tactical medicine or shooting.
However, to solve this problem, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense plan to implement a mandatory basic military education course for all students, which will include theoretical and practical training regardless of the chosen program.
"We are currently working on a pilot project of such a course, preparing the necessary infrastructure and teachers. Over time, we hope to share this experience with foreign universities, which may also be interested in similar initiatives," Vynnytskyi said.
Noting the problems of Ukrainian education, he noted the massive destruction of the material and technical base of universities during the war. Vynnytskyi also expressed the opinion that most of the problems are latent, and now Ukrainian universities are beginning to rethink their role and carry out reform processes.
