On July 19, Ukraine lost one of the brightest and most controversial figures - linguist, ex-deputy and doctor of philological sciences Iryna Farion. Her death, caused by a gunshot wound to the head, caused deep indignation and sadness among Ukrainians.
The reaction of Ukrainian show business stars
Singer Maria Burmaka was the first to react to the tragedy. She noted that Iryna Farion was a symbol of the steadfast struggle for the Ukrainian language. In her Instagram post, Burmaka wrote:
"It was a shot at Ukraine. On her YouTube channel, Iryna Farion talked about outstanding Ukrainians who died for an idea. She herself died for the idea. It is unlikely that anyone will defend the Ukrainian language so zealously and uncompromisingly. Language matters. Iryna Dmitrivna Farion was killed for her. Eternal memory."
TV presenter Oleksiy Sukhanov also expressed his condolences, emphasizing the importance of Farion as a symbol of freedom of thought. His message states:
"This is shock, horror, loss. A person who had his own position was killed... And regardless of whether you liked her or not, whether you shared her or vice versa, this is a crime, and, therefore, there should be a punishment. I was not an absolute supporter of Iryna Dmitrivna, but I always respected and will respect her for her consistency and perseverance; for an education that captivated; for the lack of fear to speak freely even when it sounded openly contemptuous.”
TV presenter Olga Freimut also emphasized that Farion gave her life for her native language:
"She fought for language. Not always delicately, not always successfully, but so sincerely. Like none of us. Let's talk in Ukrainian. Mrs. Iryna gave her life for this."
In his reaction, rapper Oleksandr Yarmak noted Farion's stable position:
"They are killing for Ukrainian again! You did not always accurately formulate the content, I could not agree with everything, but you cannot be respected for your steadfast views. Some were simply ahead of their time.”
Actress Ksenia Mishina expressed her indignation and sympathy:
"If it wasn't there, but fighting against women is an abomination. Bright memory."
TV presenter Masha Efrosinina also spoke about Farion's death:
The killing of defenseless children and women by the Russians is a lifelong tragedy for our country. Contract killings of defenseless people inside Ukraine are abomination and aiding and abetting terrorism. My condolences to the relatives and friends of Iryna Dmitrivna."
As we wrote earlier , it is still not known why the attack on Iryna Farion was committed, but there are several versions.
