Despite the warming, the situation with electricity supply may aggravate again. The reason is planned repairs at nuclear power plants through which powerful power units will be temporarily removed from the grid. This can be a critical load for the mains, which will return the light.
This was warned by a member of the Supervisory Board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Yuriy Boyko, noting that already in March-April the situation could be complicated.
According to forecasts, the main factors that can lead to electricity deficiency are as follows:
- Scheduled repairs to NPP - one block of a nuclear power station provides about 1000 MW, and its withdrawal from work can significantly affect the energy balance.
- Reducing the production of hydroelectric power plants - due to low snow, the volume of water in reservoirs has decreased significantly, which limits the ability of hydroelectric power plants to produce electricity.
- The total capacity deficit is due to damage to energy infrastructure due to Russian attacks, Ukraine does not have enough reserve generation sources.
According to the expert, there are several ways that will minimize the risks:
- Economical electricity consumption - adherence to the recommendations for the economical use of light, especially in the hours of peak loads.
- Increasing electricity imports - Ukraine can increase electricity purchases from Europe.
- Using business sources - commercial enterprises can connect their generators and rechargeable stations to the network, which will help to balance the system.
"If you attract all the available reserves, it could replace a whole large thermal power plant," Yuriy Boyko said.
