The project of the US and Ukraine agreement, which is currently under discussion, has caused a wave of indignation among Ukrainian officials. One of the high -ranking authorities, commenting on the situation for The Washington Post, stated that the document "looks as if Ukraine had lost the war to the United States and is now forced to pay life reparations."
The main concern of Kiev is the attempt of Washington to reformat preliminary financial assistance. In particular, the project of the Agreement states that some of the grants already provided can be re -qualified as a loan, which will mean Ukraine's obligations to return them. In addition, according to the WP source, the logic of the document is not focused on cooperation, but on compensation - that is, it seems that Ukraine should "reimburse the US" that it has received in recent years.
Such a wording is perceived in Kiev as an ultimatic and unfair, especially given the unprecedented damage that Ukraine undergoes as a result of a full -scale war with Russia. According to The Washington Post, the chances of approval of this document are extremely low in the current edition.
Earlier, the US newspaper has already reported that the Donald Trump administration (its possible return to the White House is actively discussed in the United States) initiates the viewing of the conditions of assistance to Ukraine, promoting new approaches, including more control, audit and, apparently, financial guarantees from Kiev.
In the event of the presentation in its current form, it can seriously affect not only bilateral relations, but also the general format of Western support of Ukraine. Currently, the agreement remains the subject of negotiations, and the position of the Ukrainian side is categorical: justice, not fiscal pressure, should be the basis of any strategic agreement with the United States.
