The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, reported on an important telephone conversation with former US President Donald Trump, which took place two months ago. During this communication, Trump expressed his support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and assured his readiness to help strengthen the country.
"I spoke on the phone with Donald Trump and he said that he is very supportive of us, we had a good conversation. He understands how difficult it is to survive during a war, and he will do everything to strengthen Ukraine," Zelensky shared in an interview with Farid Zakaria on the CNN channel.
The Ukrainian president also said that he plans to present his peace plan to Trump in order to hear his reaction to possible ways to end the war.
"I can't understand it": Zelenskyi on Trump's promises to quickly end the war
Zelensky expressed doubts about the statements of Trump, who has repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in a few days. "I can't understand it because I don't know the details," the Ukrainian leader said. He also emphasized that pre-election statements of politicians do not always correspond to the real state of affairs: "The pre-election period and pre-election statements are pre-election statements. Sometimes they are not very real.”
Zelensky confirmed his intentions to present his peace plan not only to Trump, but also to current US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and the US Congress. Following these consultations, the plan will be released to the public.
Trump and Ukraine
Donald Trump has repeatedly made contradictory statements regarding the war in Ukraine. During the debate with Kamala Harris, he avoided a direct answer to the question of whether he wants Ukraine to win the war with Russia. Instead, Trump emphasized his "good relationship" with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
In addition, the candidate for the position of vice president of the USA from Trump's team, James D. Vance, said that if Trump wins the elections, his administration will demand that Ukraine and the European Union enter into unfavorable negotiations with Russia and actually "freeze" the conflict.
