Despite the fact that a full-scale war is ongoing in Ukraine, mobilization of women is not foreseen in 2025. All Ukrainian women serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are volunteers. There were no changes to the current procedure in October.
Since the beginning of the invasion, women have been drafted only with their consent. Forced conscription is possible only if there are changes in the legislation, which currently do not exist.
A certain category of women is obliged to register for military service. These are mainly medical professionals. This does not mean mandatory mobilization, but administrative fines may be applied for violation of registration rules. Currently, women subject to military service include: doctors of various specializations; nurses; dentists; pharmacists; women who have completed a military department. For medical workers, a mandatory stage is to pass a military medical commission. They must also inform the territorial recruitment center about changes in life circumstances that may affect registration.
Regarding voluntary service, Ukrainian women can sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the Recruiting Center, women aged 18–24 sign a special contract, while older women sign a general contract.
After signing the contract, a woman has the same rights and obligations as other military personnel. She cannot leave the service until the end of the war or the announcement of demobilization. Her right to travel abroad will also be limited. Ukrainian women can serve in the army in the following positions: accountant; combat medic;
legal clerk; psychologist; drone operator; aerial reconnaissance; rifleman and others.
To get into the army, a woman must go through an interview with a recruiter, pass a military medical commission and prepare the necessary package of documents. Additional advantages are the presence of a driver's license or certificates in home medical care. After completing the selection stages, the candidate undergoes basic training. Only after that she can be sent to the unit.
Recall that under martial law, every citizen has a duty in the national security system. Women, like men, can join the Armed Forces of Ukraine voluntarily, and mandatory mobilization remains a matter of legislative changes only.
