On the eve of Easter, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine made a strict appeal to the ten largest manufacturers and retail networks that supply chicken eggs to the Ukrainian market. Market participants were officially called for not to allow artificial rise in prices and not to create an artificial shortage.
The AMCU emphasizes that eggs are a essential product that is included in the basic consumer basket, so prices are particularly sensitive to society. On the eve of the holidays, the demand for eggs is traditionally increasing, but this year the situation has drawn special attention to the regulator.
According to the Committee, the average price for a dozen eggs has already risen to UAH 76.4 - it is 9% more than last month, and almost 30% more than in the same period of 2024.
In response to a rapid increase in prices, the committee began a separate study of the situation in the market. The Office also warned that attempts to restrict eggs to the domestic market for exports will be regarded as anticompetitive actions and can be serious.
This year, Easter is both the Christians of the Eastern and Western Rite on April 20, which creates additional pressure on the food market. According to analysts, the cost of the Easter basket in 2025 will increase by 17-33% depending on its filling.
In addition to excitement, prices are also affected by inflation and seasonal fluctuations. The AMCU reminds: actions aimed at creating artificial excitement or deficiency can be qualified as a violation of competitive legislation with appropriate consequences.
