The European Union has finally approved the decision on duty-free and quota-free trade with Ukraine for another year. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Previously, in March, the European Council and the European Parliament reached an agreement on the liberalization of trade with Ukraine, but then the member states made corrections to the text, which required new negotiations. However, the parties finally reached a new preliminary agreement.
The EU has agreed to suspend tariffs and quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products for another year, but with greater protection for EU farmers. Provided that if the EU market or the markets of several countries are seriously disturbed by Ukrainian imports, for example wheat, the European Commission will take the necessary measures, including the possible immediate suspension of exports of sensitive agricultural products, such as poultry, eggs, sugar, oat groats, corn and honey
These trade moves are part of the Ukraine-EU association agreement, which includes a deep free trade area, giving Ukrainian companies greater access to the European market since 2016.
These measures continue in the context of Russian aggression, with the aim of stabilizing the Ukrainian economy and promoting the country's gradual integration into the EU internal market.
