The offensive of the Russian occupation forces has been going on for over a year, and long-range strikes on Russia, as well as a significant increase in the amount of weapons provided, are necessary for Ukraine to be effectively confronted. This was stated by the executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Dmytro Zhmailo, in an interview with "Glavred". He emphasized that the problem lies in the constant support of Russian troops from the territory of the Russian Federation, which allows them to strengthen their forces.
Logistics is the key to stopping the offensive
"If we destroy logistics, it can stop the advance of the enemy," Zhmailo said. He explained that the Ukrainian army is constantly putting pressure on its Western partners to obtain permission to strike with long-range weapons on the territory of Russia. According to the expert, this can change the situation at the front.
Ukraine needs more weapons
Despite the fact that since 2022, Ukraine has received many types of weapons, parity with Russia has not yet been achieved. Zhmailo noted that the ratio of forces behind the shells can reach 1:3 in favor of the enemy, if supplies continue continuously.
"Creeping offensive" and the role of artillery
According to Zhmail, although the Russian Federation has enough resources to continue offensive actions, they are not capable of making large-scale breakthroughs, as during the battles for Avdiivka. This is due to the increase in the number of Ukrainian artillery and fire weapons, which significantly exceed those that were in Ukraine last winter.
"The creeping offensive will most likely continue, but major breakthroughs on the front are unlikely," stated Dmytro Zhmailo.
