Over the past two weeks, Russian forces have stepped up their offensive activity on all fronts, and a key factor in this is the freezing of the ground, British intelligence said in a daily report. Frozen ground allows enemy armour to move over rough terrain.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ( AFU ), on January 19, the number of Russian shelling at the front increased by 27% compared to the previous 24 hours. During this period, 81 airstrikes and 45 rocket attacks were recorded.
British intelligence data, comparing the period from January 14 to 18, 2024 with the previous five-day period this month, shows an increase in Russian shelling and losses of equipment and personnel. In particular, the number of losses of Russian military equipment increased by 88%, the number of losses of tanks by 95%, and the number of losses of personnel increased by 15%.
“This data indicates a steady increase in the intensity of Russian offensive activity over the past two weeks. A key contributing factor is likely to be the freezing of the ground, which allows armored vehicles to move over rough terrain,” the report states.
Intelligence also indicated that the losses of the Russian side had increased and that the Russian occupiers had turned their attention from the Kupyansky direction to the Limansky direction, where massive attacks .
The report also noted that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine is now in its 697th day, and 80 clashes have occurred in the past 24 hours.
