At the international forum, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Kornienko appealed to Donald Trump and American lawmakers with a request to facilitate the re-election of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Kornienko emphasized that in Ukraine, unlike the United States, the possibility of re-election is limited, especially during wartime. He noted that Ukrainian deputies need the support of the international community to end the war, which will allow elections to be held.
"Unfortunately, we in the Verkhovna Rada cannot change like they (Congress), but we would really like all American politicians, starting with Donald Trump, the president-elect, and ending with the Congress, the Senate, to do their best to so that we can be re-elected. This is our request to them as deputies," said Kornienko
Kornienko noted that elections cannot be held in Ukraine during martial law. Therefore, a peaceful settlement and the restoration of security in the country are critical for the restoration of electoral processes and democratic procedures.
