In Dnipro, law enforcement officers detained an 18-year-old boy who is suspected of murdering linguist Iryna Farion in Lviv. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this, noting that the detention operation was very difficult.
"The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has just informed me about the detention in Dnipro of a suspect in the murder of Iryna Farion. During these days, hundreds of specialists of the National Police of Ukraine, SBU and other services worked on solving the murder. I am grateful to each and every one who every day added more facts to the picture of the crime and brought the establishment of the full truth closer," the president wrote.
According to Zelenskyi, the detention operation was difficult and required considerable efforts on the part of law enforcement officers. Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported on the work carried out, emphasizing the importance of coordinated interaction of various services. Currently, the necessary investigative actions and examinations are ongoing, and the Minister of Internal Affairs is obliged to present all the details of the case to the public.
The death of Iryna Farion
On July 19, Iryna Farion, a former member of parliament and a well-known linguist, died in the hospital after the assassination attempt. She was wounded in the head by an unknown person who shot her in Lviv on Masaryk Street. Doctors tried to save her life, but Farion's condition remained critical.
The attempt on Iryna Farion took place in the evening of July 19. Neighbors said that during the week they saw a young man on Masaryk Street who could be involved in the crime. The description of the killer provided by the neighbors helped the law enforcement officers in the investigation.
According to the daughter of Iryna Farion, Sofia Semchyshyn, her mother planned to relax with her family at the sea. On the last day of her life, Farion picked up her grandson Dmytro from kindergarten and was preparing for a trip.
Farewell to Iryna Farion
On July 22, a farewell to Iryna Farion took place in Lviv. The funeral ceremony began with a farewell memorial service in the garrison church of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. Relatives, friends, colleagues, military personnel and caring Lviv residents attended the ceremony. Among them were fellow party members of Farion, in particular, the leader of the All-Ukrainian association "Svoboda" Oleg Tyagnibok and other former deputies.
