US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet in Washington today. The talks will begin at 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time (8:15 p.m. Kyiv time) in the Oval Office of the White House, Reuters reported, citing the White House.
Following his bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian leader, Trump will hold broader talks with European leaders. At 3 p.m. Eastern Time (10 p.m. Kyiv time), European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Maloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will gather in the East Room of the White House.
According to Ukrinform, the main topic of the negotiations will be the search for opportunities to end the war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy's visit to Washington has already taken place, he arrived in the US on the eve of the meetings.
Trump himself said on Truth Social that the White House is in for a “big day.” He said that never before have so many European leaders gathered in Washington at the same time. “It’s an honor to host them!” he wrote.
The meetings at the White House are seen as an important stage in diplomatic consultations that could determine further steps towards resolving the war in Ukraine and strengthening transatlantic cooperation.
