The Economist magazine published an article in which it questions the possibility of Volodymyr Zelenskyi's re-election success in 2024. According to the publication's experts, the Ukrainian president is no longer considered an "undisputed military leader", as it was at the beginning of the war. In particular, against the background of numerous challenges facing Ukraine, his popularity and trust in his leadership have significantly decreased.
If the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhnyi participates in the elections, Zelenskyi may face serious competition and even lose. The Economist also notes that the former associate of the president foresees a difficult choice for him. According to him, the only thing that can preserve Zelenskyi's unsullied reputation is the decision to hold elections without his participation.
"If Zelensky decides not to run for office, he can go down in history as a person who united the nation in the most difficult period of its history. Otherwise, it will be difficult for him to avoid associations with a possible military collapse or unfinished peace," said the former associate of the Ukrainian president.
The statements reflect the growing uncertainty surrounding Zelenskyi's wartime political career and call into question his continued involvement in the 2024 election campaign.
