President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi will visit Spain and Portugal next week. The visit, planned for mid-May, was postponed due to the Russian offensive in the north of the Kharkiv region.
According to the Spanish radio station Cadena SER, official events with the participation of Zelensky will take place in Madrid on Monday, May 27. It is planned that the President of Ukraine will meet with the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez and King Felipe. It is expected that Zelensky will arrive in Spain already on Sunday.
This will be Zelenskyi's first bilateral visit to Spain. Last October, he was in Granada at the summit of the European Political Community as part of Spain's EU presidency. During this visit, it is planned to sign a bilateral agreement on security guarantees between Spain and Ukraine.
After the visit to Spain, Zelenskyi will visit Portugal. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has yet to officially confirm a planned meeting with Zelensky, but CNN Portugal reports that the meeting will take place on Tuesday.
Zelensky previously announced new security agreements. He noted that the already signed agreements with Latvia, Italy, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands may be joined by the countries of Northern Europe and, possibly, the USA.
Ukraine negotiates security guarantees with a number of partner countries, but they are not always real guarantees.
