According to Time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, made a risky decision to intensify the war in order to turn events around and preserve his political positions in Ukraine. This includes more aggressive attacks on targets inside Russia, which are a manifestation of Ukraine's fears about the stability of the West.
The article examines the division of opinion among supporters of Ukraine in America and Europe, especially regarding the possibility of Ukraine regaining control over 18% of its territory. Even if the U.S. Congress approves a 2024 military aid increase, which could be the last aid package before the November election, there are problems in Germany and opposition in Hungary that make filling the military aid gap difficult.
At the same time, it is noted that the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, is transferring the Russian economy to a military system, while Kyiv is considering the possibility of mobilizing an additional 500,000 military personnel. However, even if this becomes possible, it may not solve the problem of war against a country with a larger population and economy.
According to the journalists, Ukraine is currently taking measures to expand the domestic production of defense equipment, in particular, drones for combat operations and targeting targets inside Russia.
Zelenskyi has already taken a significant risk by launching more aggressive attacks on Russian facilities and occupied territories in order to break the war and preserve his political position in Ukraine. This could provoke a response from Russia and lead to more NATO intervention in the conflict, which is risky for both sides.
