Also on this day, the Church recalls the Prophet Jeremiah, the Georgian Queen Tamara and Metropolitan Macarius of Kiev. According to the old style, Ukrainians honor the Reverend John of Thessaloniki.
At the folk level, this day is known as the Veremiah of the Night. It is believed that today it is especially favorable to work in gardens and plant vegetables. Our ancestors have finally moved from the sledges to the carts, starting active spring work in the fields and cities. Traditionally, this day is also done by general cleaning of homes.
Among the folk signs on May 1 are the following: if the beginning of May is hot, at the end of the month are expected cold; Thunderstorm on this day heralds a generous harvest of berries; And if insects are not visible, it is soon worth expected.
Today, the Labor Day is also officially celebrated-the International Workers' Solidarity Day, which has history since 1886, when US workers have gone on strikes, demanding an 8-hour working day. In Ukraine, despite its martial law, this day is a national holiday, but additional weekends have now been abolished.

There are a number of prohibitions on this day: it is not recommended to participate in quarrels, conflicts, spend a day in laziness or wear dirty and torn clothing. Believers traditionally refrain from negative thoughts and bad words.
