On July 17, the Russian language should almost completely disappear from Ukrainian television

In three months, the Russian language should almost completely disappear from Ukrainian television, said language ombudsman Taras Kremin.

He wrote that on July 17, Clause 6 of Part 8 of Article 40 of the Law "On Media" comes into force, which strengthens the requirements for the use of the state language in the broadcasts of Ukrainian-language programs.

According to the ombudsman, after July 17, the use of non-state language on airwaves is allowed only in stable expressions, short phrases or individual words approved by the program participants.

"All speeches, interviews, comments, explanations, questions, individual remarks in a non-state language must be translated, dubbed or voiced in Ukrainian. This will contribute to the termination of the Ukrainian-Russian bilingual regime in television and radio broadcasts," Kremin said.

At the same time, according to him, the law still allows no more than 10% of broadcasting in Russian between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
