A 19-year-old cadet of the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi National Academy of the State Border Guard Service was found dead in Chernivtsi region on April 19. The young man was serving at the Chernivtsi border detachment.
This was reported by Suspilne with reference to the spokeswoman of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Western Region, Yulia Shevchenko.
According to preliminary data, at about 18:20, a cadet fired a shot from his service weapon. The incident occurred while on duty. All circumstances are currently being established.
"An investigative and operational group is working on site, forensic experts have been involved, and an inspection of the scene is underway," the prosecutor's office spokeswoman noted.
After the completion of the initial investigative actions, the issue of opening criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder) with the designation "suicide" will be resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the district police department under the procedural guidance of the Chernivtsi Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense.
The circumstances of the tragedy have not yet been disclosed. The prosecutor's office emphasizes that all versions will be checked as part of the investigation.
