The year 2024 became a record year for Kyiv in terms of temperature indicators. According to data from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, the average temperature in the capital was +11.4°C, which is 2.4°C higher than normal. This made 2024 the warmest year on record.
"According to the observations of the weather station of the observatory, the average annual temperature in the capital in 2024 was +11.4°C, which is 2.4°C higher than the climatic norm. It became the warmest in the capital during the observation period," the message reads.
It is noted that in 2024, the air temperature exceeded the long-term average in all its months.
February and September, which had the largest positive deviations - 5.2°C and 5.7°C, respectively, were "noted" in particular. The coldest was January 9 – minus 15.8°C, the hottest – July 16, when the temperature in the shade reached plus 36.0°C,” the observatory informs.
In total, in 2024, 52 temperature records were recorded in Kyiv, and the largest number were in April - 13 and July - 14.
It is also reported that 642 mm of precipitation fell, which corresponds to 104% of the climatic norm. However, they were distributed very unevenly over time - almost two monthly norms in April and June and only 23% and 36% of the average long-term indicators in May and September.
