In the Mykolaiv region, a tragedy occurred while responding to a call about a family quarrel - an attacker threw a grenade at police officers. One law enforcement officer was killed and three others were injured. This was reported by the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi.
The incident occurred during the day. According to law enforcement officials, after the police arrived at the scene of the call, the offender, trying to escape, took out a grenade and threw it towards the police.
The explosion killed 21-year-old police sergeant Maksym Ryzhko. Three of his colleagues were injured and hospitalized.
“Maxim recently became a father. Unfortunately, his daughter will learn about her father's heroism years later…” — wrote Ivan Vyhivskyi on his Facebook page.
He also addressed the public: “For all the skeptics who believe that all the police should be sent to the front — think about it: what if trouble happens to your loved ones? Who would you turn to for help?”
The armed attacker was promptly detained by police. A criminal case has been opened into the tragedy, and the investigation is ongoing.
