Wednesday, October 23, marks several important dates at once, from Orthodox celebrations to professional holidays. This day has symbolic significance for believers, advertisers, and even beekeepers.
Church holiday
The Orthodox Church today honors the apostle from the 70s, James, brother and disciple of Jesus Christ. They also celebrate the Council of the Volyn Saints, including the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet Cyril and Methodius, princes Volodymyr, Yaropolk and Olga, the chronicler Nestor and other prominent figures.
According to the old style, on this date they commemorate the martyrs Eulampius and Eulampia.
Holiday in Ukraine
October 23 is Advertising Workers' Day. Today we congratulate PR professionals, marketers, designers, and copywriters — everyone who shapes the image of companies and creates advertising space.
Also born on this day were famous Ukrainian figures: film director Artur Voitetskyi, rower Yana Dementieva, and football player Andriy Yarmolenko.
International holidays
The world today celebrates Republic Day in Hungary, Lawyer's Day in the United States, Medic's Day in Mexico, Aviator's Day in Brazil, and Revolution Day in Macedonia.
It is also Snow Leopard Day, Sudden Epilepsy Death Awareness Day, and Kabuki Disease Awareness Day.
Folk signs
People consider October 23rd to be a beekeeper's holiday. On this day, our ancestors cleaned their hives for the winter and tasted honey. It was believed that a spoonful of honey on an empty stomach ensured good health.
Among the signs:
-
clear sky at night - to strong wind;
-
a rainbow after the rain - to warming;
-
wet ground without rain - to damp weather until the end of the month;
-
hail - to early winter.
Saint James is prayed to for peace of mind, wisdom, and reconciliation with family. This day is considered favorable for good deeds and helping others.
What can't be done
It is not recommended to quarrel, make empty promises, harm nature or animals. It is also believed that any plans made on this day will not come true.
