Today is the day when traditions, religion and folk wisdom are intertwined. On that day, the church honors the Apostle and Evangelist Mark, and in the folk calendar - this is a period of signs, which determined what the summer, harvest and even the amount of honey would be.
Apostle Mark: Evangelist, missionary and martyr
St. Mark was one of the 70 apostles. He was born in Jerusalem and came to Christ thanks to the Apostle Peter. It was in Rome, being near Peter, that he wrote the Gospel from Mark, which became one of the four main texts of the New Testament.
Subsequently, the Apostle went to preach to Egypt, where he founded one of the first Christian communities. However, his life was tragically cut off: during the pagan holiday, which coincided with Easter, the crowd grabbed the saint, cruelly tortured and killed. The Apostle Mark died in prayer, thanking God for his suffering.
