In Kyiv, police detained a man who, after a “romantic” evening, stole a woman’s phone and withdrew money from her bank account. As reported by the capital’s police, the 26-year-old Kyiv resident caused his new acquaintance almost 18,000 hryvnias in damages.
A 40-year-old resident of the Podilskyi district contacted the police after discovering that her smartphone was missing. She said that it was the first time she had invited a new acquaintance to her house. During dinner, which gradually turned into an alcoholic feast, the woman lost her vigilance. The attacker took advantage of this.
As law enforcement officers found out, the man had learned the phone unlock code in advance. When the hostess fell asleep, he took her smartphone and used it to not only pay for groceries in the store, but also withdraw money from the woman's bank card.
The police quickly identified the attacker and detained him. A criminal case has been opened for theft and illegal use of bank account access. The man has now been notified of suspicion. He faces up to eight years in prison.
A date with a sequel now promises to turn into a trial with real prison time. Police are urging citizens to be careful with new acquaintances, especially when the acquaintance turns into a feast.
