In Transcarpathia, border guards detained three locals who, with the help of drones, tried to cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border with a batch of cigarettes. They face up to 6 years in prison.
According to the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service, the operation was exposed on June 4, servicemen of the Tyachiv Border Guard Service. The smugglers have arranged a sliding site 10 kilometers from the border and prepared for launching unmanned aerial vehicles.
During the detention, the attackers tried to escape, which forced the border guards to make warning shots. At the scene found a considerable amount of equipment and smuggling goods: two SUVs of high patency, four drones, four articles, a laptop, a laptop, 19 batteries, a control panel, an installation for starting UAVs and almost 5 thousand packs of cigarettes.
A pre -trial investigation was launched at the Economic Security Bureau. The persons are charged with illegal transportation of excise goods (Article 204 of the Criminal Code) and smuggling (Article 201-4 of the Criminal Code). The maximum punishment under these articles is up to six years in prison with confiscation of property.
