Ukraine is faced with a large volume of demolition waste, which has exceeded the mark of 600,000 tons. This waste consists mainly of the debris of buildings and other objects that were destroyed during the shelling. This was announced by Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management in Kharkiv Oblast.
Krasnolutsky noted that the government already approved the procedure for disposal of this waste in September 2022. He also noted that the government is constantly negotiating with international partners in order to receive assistance for the purchase of the necessary equipment for waste processing.
The partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also an important step. This cooperation will contribute to the rapid movement of destruction waste processing projects, especially in the Kharkiv region, where shelling increases the amount of waste daily.
At the same time, it is also important for Kharkiv Oblast to solve problems with household waste management. The launched garbage reform should create the necessary conditions for this.
According to the plans, construction of 8 new waste processing plants is planned in the Kharkiv region. Two of them will carry out a full range of work with waste, including sorting, processing and production of fuel from waste, as well as energy utilization with the production of electricity and heat. This will make it possible to achieve 100% recycling of household waste in the region.
Legislation, in particular Law No. 2320-IX "On Waste Management", establishes clear rules for investors and guarantees the protection of their investments.
"International partners support our path from destruction to green transformation. At international forums, green recovery is considered as Ukraine's main investment priority," Krasnolutsky emphasized.
