The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) reported 68 convictions of sitting and former MPs between 2016 and 2024. As noted in the NABU report, 41 of these convictions were announced in just the last two years – from 2022 to 2024. The main charges relate to bribery and abuse of power.
Typical crimes involving people's deputies:
- misappropriation, embezzlement or taking possession of property through abuse of official position;
- receiving a bribe;
- misfeasance;
- declaring false information;
- illicit enrichment.

The SAPO has opened proceedings against People's Deputy Roman Kaptyolov over his family's undeclared real estate in Moscow. The case concerns his wife and children's residence in the Russian Federation, as well as his wife's income from a Russian government institution.
On February 14, the court took into custody People's Deputy Viktor Bondar, one of the organizers of the embezzlement of over UAH 140 million during the purchase of cables by JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
In January, we reported on the suspicion of Vadym Novinsky, the “curator” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and a member of the People’s Deputy of several convocations from the “Opposition Bloc.” He is suspected of high treason and inciting religious enmity and hatred.
